Blaze orange, your safety first

Blaze orange is not optional: in Quebec, wearing fluorescent orange clothing is MANDATORY during firearm big-game hunting periods. It is the single most important safety measure of your outing, whether you hunt from a stand, by stalking, or in a drive.

Why orange

  • Fluorescent orange is highly visible to the human eye, even in low light.
  • The White-tailed deer and Moose perceive this color poorly: you stay visible to other hunters without alerting game.
  • It prevents shooting accidents, especially in drives and shared terrain.

What the rule says (MFFP)

  1. A blaze orange vest or garment must cover the upper body visibly from all angles.
  2. The requirement applies to firearm big-game hunts; verify the details and exceptions in the current MFFP regulations.
  3. Orange camo is allowed only if it meets the required color proportion.

Practical tips

  • Always keep a spare vest in your pack.
  • Wear an orange cap too, to be seen from afar in a drive.
  • Even when not required (archery, trails), a bit of orange while moving boosts your safety.

Blaze orange saves lives: wear it without compromise whenever the law requires it.
